"Orchestrating Experiences" Book Talk with Chris Risdon and Patrick Quattlebaum

We'll hear a talk from Chris Risdon and Patrick Quattlebaum, authors of Orchestrating Experiences: Collaborative Design for Complexity.

About Orchestrating Experiences:

Customer experiences are increasingly complicated—with multiple channels, touchpoints, contexts, and moving parts—all delivered by fragmented organizations. How can you bring your ideas to life in the face of such complexity? Orchestrating Experiences is a practical guide for designers and everyone struggling to create products and services in complex environments.

Patrick will appear by videoconference.

All About Service Blueprinting

The ingredients of a well-executed, seamless customer experience are intricately intertwined—they're a delicate, well-choreographed interplay of people, touchpoints, processes, and technology that can make or break customers' experiences.

A service blueprint enables organizations to visualize these complexities, both for customer-facing and behind-the-scenes aspects of the customer journey. Whether used to gain insight to the current state of affairs or to map future service offerings, understanding how to fully leverage a service blueprint is critical for any service designer.

SDN San Francisco is thrilled to present a workshop on service blueprinting that will give attendees hands-on experience.

Food will be served.

Previously, she worked in product design at Fitbit, focusing on data visualization, user research, and UX.

DOCOMOMO Tour Day 2017: The Mid Century City

The Western Addition and Cathedral Hill first opened to development in the 1870s and 80s, quickly filling with the urban middle-class housing of the era. Once a center of Asian-American culture, after the events of World War II, the neighborhood became an African-American enclave. By the 1950s the same housing had been deemed substandard, making the area a prime candidate for urban renewal, leaving many of the African-American residents facing eviction. Please join the DOCOMOMO US Northern California Chapter as we tour Cathedral Hill to discuss some of the history that contributed to a modern design in the heart of a Victorian city.

SDN U.S. Conference: "Service Design Within US"

Service design in the U.S. is trending in-house. The first national Service Design Network conference will focus on how service design is evolving as an internal discipline within organizations of all types and sizes. Talks and workshops have been closely curated to illustrate many critical aspects of growing service design both within internal teams and external consulting. We believe our program will help established organizations, start-ups and entrepreneurs alike understand how service design can help them to serve their people better.

Our conference featured a curated set of stories and lessons learned from the people that are shaping and evolving the way organizations are practicing service design in the U.S. market.

Dealing with Red Tape: SxD in Highly-Regulated Industries

Highly regulated industries can be difficult to design for. Regulations exist to protect business and consumers; how can service designers work with legal experts to empower customers and employees without unintended consequences?

The San Francisco chapter of the Service Design Network presents a panel discussion with designers and legal compliance experts representing companies in the personal finance, healthcare, and other highly regulated industries. Come hear how these designers and compliance experts have worked together to design for interactions while being mindful of the rules and regulations that pervade service design work in these industries!

  • Izac Ross - Design Lead, Collective Health
  • Jessica Striebich, Service Design Lead, Adaptive Path
  • Vicky Gravett, Principal Project Manager, Compliance, Capital One
